Learning to read independently

We learned how to read independently - it's called reciprocal reading.

Book Speed Dating

For book speed dating first we got a sheet with all the books and one books name was highlighted but every one had a diffrent book name that was highlighted. Than we followed the list starting from the highlighted book name on the list. We had to read the blurb of each book and rate the book out of 1-5.

I liked the go girl book the most so I rated it as a 5

Title: Baa Baa Smart Sheep

Author:  Mark Sommerset

This book is a picture book with wee little speech bubbles to tell the story. It is based around two characters, the Sheep and Quirkey Turkey.  It could be set either on a farm or in a field, the illustrations are quite simple so it’s hard to tell. The characters show great expressions in their faces throughout the book. The story is based around the Sheep telling Quirkey Turkey that his poo is actually smart tablets. It’s awesome the way the sheep convinces him to  eat the tablets – and obviously there are some interesting consequences.

I would recommend this book to all children who love funny books, and some teachers too.

It’s a great read aloud book! Hilarious!

The best reviewer aged between 5-7 years, 8ˆ12 years, and 13+ will each receive a pack of books courtesy of Scholastic NZ. These reviews will also be published in The School Library, the Book Council's reviews publication sent to member schools.
