Matariki

Matariki

Matariki is about a group of stars which you would call the seven sisters. It is also known to be the traditional Maori New year.
The Maori new year is marked by the rise of Matariki and sighting of the next full moon.
The Matariki can be seen in the winter solstice in the eastern sky. Which this year it can be seen around the 14th of June.
Matariki is celebrated with education, remembrance and the planting of new trees and plants signaling the new beginnings. By the meaning of education, schools participate the maori new year with flax weaving, learning a haka, making seven stars and for the little kids they color in the stars.
The celebration lasts for 3 days after the new moon had risen following Matariki bec
oming visible.

In room 21 and room 22 we were celebrating Matariki by making clay necklaces that represents something.

Disco Night!!!!!!!!

On the 11th of June 6:30pm. We had a disco in the hall. It was 5 dollars to get in. The things the parents were selling was candy floss, zombie chews, finger lights, glow sticks, fizzy drinks and water. When a Justin Bieber song came on all the girls started screaming and when it was about 7:30pm all of the finger lights were sold out. All of the games we were playing were amazing. The game we played where called Musical statues, Michael Jackson dance 0ff, Follow the leader. The songs were great I knew the songs were great because most people were singing along. The disco was so cool because we got to get out of our houses . At the disco people wore awesome clothes and some people wore some dresses. At the disco there was REALLY LOUD MUSIC!!!!!!! Some people were wearing T-shirts saying I love Justin! when the disco was finished people were angry because people wanted to stay at the disco longer and dance and have more fun!!!!

Go LG MYSTICS!!!

We walk to the gate, we're inside the trust stadium and we see our home team....the LG MYSTICS!! They were versing the pulse team. Beep as the whistle goes! The game has started...wow the mystic's goal shooter has the ball in her hands ready to shoot! Beep the whistle goes again the mystics have a goal!! The crowd goes wild and then very quiet...soon the whistle goes again now the crowd is waving there blue banners, shouting and screaming, then everyone is suddenly quiet then the ball has been thrown to the pulse team then the whistle blows. The timer goes its a quarter gone already the mystics have 21 goals already. Pulse has 30 goals they have got in the lead I wonder what happens next! The whistle blows its the second quarter already the mystics have 31 goals and the pulse team are still on 30 goals.....But wait a minute? Something awesome is coming out? it is, it is, a HUGE DICE!! What happens with the dice is when you get a number from 1 to 6 that is the time you will get for the game, and if you get the smile face we get 15 minutes to go,so that is quite a long time for the mystics and the pulse team. So the dice has been rolled and what number do we get???? We get the number 6!!!!So then we get 6 minutes for the game to end, so then the mystics have 59 and the pulse team had 59 as well so then the talker guy said that we should have 14 minutes left to the finish. So this is what he meant, so we have 7 minutes for the mystics and pulse, then they have 1 minute to have a drink, then have a talk, then they will go play again for 7 minutes then have another drink and then another talk. Then we all look at the Score board and OMG!!!! pulse have 60 goals and we have 61 goals and the CROWD GOES WILD by screaming and shouting and cheering and then we all clap and cheer some more, and then everyone starts walking outside so they can go home and then the game was finished, and if you wanted to you could meet the mystics and get something signed.

THE END

The HIGHLY COMMENDED Letterboxes

On Friday evening last week, there was a post box competition. Many schools were competing and getting prizes for all their hard work that they had done. Jay Yu and Dain got 'Highly Commended' certificates. All the certificates that were given out to everyone that won a prize each. When we went up, we got given two black bags with goodies in them. In the bags we got some roses and the certificate. We are quite proud of our class and all the people that made a letterbox. We were so happy when we went up stage. Dain couldn't take the smile off her face! It looked like it was going to be on her face forever and ever!!! When we went off the stage we gave our bags to Miss Cheeseman so she can look after them. On Monday morning, we found out what was inside the bag. There were gift cards for the class and the 'Roses' chocolates enough to hand out to the whole class! YUM!!! Everyone had so much fun making the letterboxes! Well done to Tenera, Tori-Grace, Alex, Farah, Isabella, Sahville and Dain and thanks for coming!!!

Cross country.

What a awesome day. People are running and running trying to be 1st. As soon as you pass them they give you a BAD look like you let them all down. Some were cheering you on some weren't. TICK TOCK TICK TOCK the time went fast in your head people were getting ready for the next race. By time it was my turn to race my heart was pounding, my pod was telling me to go faster. I started to pick up my speed. I started to past some girls. I was coming first in the start but then Hannah past me and Sarsha and I was coming in a tie together. When everything finished everyone was very happy and some weren't just because they never made it in the finals. It was hard for some people because you had to try come in the top 8. hi my

The Values Filming With Rm 21

On Friday, we did some filming about the Summerland values.
We did it with room 21. Before we started filming, we had to get into a group, watch a few videos then we planned about how, where and when we were going to film it. After we planned it, Miss Cheeseman showed us how to use the camera with a tripod. She showed us how to change the size of the tripod and how to record with a camera. After, we told Miss Cheeseman where we were going so she didn't have to go looking for us all the time. When we went to go and do our filming, we weren't allowed to go where all the other groups were. After we filmed, we imported it to Imovie. Nobody got to the editing part yet because we had to get ready for home-time.
But when we get up to it, we will update this post!!!

Shania's Awesome Birthday Party...

Yay!! It is finally my best friend's birthday party this is the day we have all been waiting for... A day at Ice Paradise. Soon after everyone was at Shania's house ready to go in the car for ice-skating. Then we pulled up to Shania's grandma house, she was very kind, and was letting us eat the chocolate fudge cake early, everyone had some then there face went red... like they were blushing but they weren't... the cake was horrible... It was dry and spongy and we figured out that it was gluten free.
Soon we were all ready to go when we went, no one was there at ice paradise, it was only speed racing , it was not open till 1.00Pm but the party ends at 2.00pm this is a disaster! We thought about doing laser strike but that takes about half an hour to get there.... Suddenly we saw a sign... It said MOTAT... What a perfect idea! We went inside everything had changed AGAIN last time we went there it was full of sports and now its all about cars even the duct do dome changed it is now called the haunted house.. It is pitch black and you can't see anything it was an obstacle coarse, and there was a net that went up and a rope attached to it, it was scary at first but then we got used to it and went again and again.. It felt as though we were going 1 million times. After the obstacle coarse we were on our way to the scrumptious Mc.Donald's. Soon after that we took Devon home while Shania and I played sing star for half an hour at her house... Soon after that Shania's dad drove me back to my house... And that was one of the best party we have ever been to.

Visit to Ruakaka beach/camping site

On the first day of the school holidays, my family and I went to a camping site up north called Ruakaka Reserve Motor Camp. It took along time to get there by car. It took around 2-3 hours.

We booked in earlier for 4 days and 3 nights in a tent, so we did'nt need to care a bit.
When we got there we had to get out of the car for fresh air, because all the way from Auckland to Rukaka, we could see many farms and dryland. I was so happy that I live in Henderson were the air is fresh. But we are not talking about that now.

When we got access to the camping ground, we had to put our tent out obivously, so we did but it took quite a long time because we kept fussing about were the front door is. But we finished.

There was a kitchen for use and toliet and shower joined together. It was close to us that we had no trouble getting in and out. The only thing is that when we came to the office to pay the booking, the office lady gave us 10 50c tokens to use for the kitchen and the 5min hot showers.

At night it was not so cold than we thought it was. Because we brought in so much warm clothing that most of them had'nt been touched since we left. I was all hot and stuffy at night that I couldn't sleep well in my sleeping bag!

On the next day we got up at around 6.30am to around 7.30am, had breakfast and left for a morning walk on the beach. It was a reserve motor camp so we couldn't take any seashells. How sad! My dad thought there was fishes in the ocean at the beach, so he brought his fishing rod out and gave it a shot. Then he realised there was no fish here, so he drove us up to Mardsen Point, where my dad caught a few fishes! It was so sad that they were so big that I could eat them, because I hated fish!

A few days pasted, and it was time to leave, I had so much fun that I even forgot what my homework was! But I did because I 'm doing my homework! I wish I could go back there and have more fun and remember to bring sporting stuff to play with!

visit to soljans winery

Today I went to the WINERY ,KUMEU in AUCKLAND.
Winery Tour started at 11am there were lots of people who were waiting.
The restaurant manager (he looked like my neighbor grandfather) told us how to make a wine for one hour .
First I saw grape trees that were covered with net because to protect from letting the bird eat the grape, and then we went inside the factory where they have alot of instruments those need to make wine .

HOW TO MAKE A WINE

1.pick some grapes
2.wash them carefully
3.squash and squeeze by the machine
4.Put it in the stainless that can be fermented
5.put it in a wine bottle

After the tour I tested a sweet wine, it tated like salty cola.
So I wouldn't drink it even i grow up.

GOLF, my new favourite sport

Today, my family and I went golfing. We went there to take lessons. My balls went really far. They went about 90 metres.
Our tutor was Korean so we could understand him easily. He told us to bend our knees, always whatever we do don't take our eyes off the ball and the targets, spread your legs out, don't hit the ball to hard and so on.
My brother hurt his finger badly and had to put cream on it. He said "It hurts a lot!" and he burst out crying. I felt so sorry for him.
Well, but it was still a nice day. We had so much fun.

My dream, a GEOPHYSICIST

I have always wanted to be a scientist since I was little. Now, this is my chance to be one.
Not just any old random scientist, but a geophysicist. A geophysicist is someone who studies about the physics of the earth & its atmosphere. So I thought it would be really cool to be one.
In order to be a geophysicist, I have to study. So I print off sheets from a website called
teach-nology.com. It is a very good website for science because it has all sorts of science worksheets. I think all teachers should use it.
Well, but that's another story. Anyway, if I get to be a geophysicist, I would like to be a very kind and generous one. And I would like to be someone who respects others and someone who others respect. I would like to get at least one 'Novel Award' , leave my name in history and many many more.
I hope my dream comes true!

YOUR MONOPOLIZED

The monopoly update you are reading now is going to tell you who won it was a fine day when we played monopoly Kevin and Miss Cheeseman got bankrupt. Josh, Vikram and Louisa was left in the game we all had hotels on different properties. It was a close game but if we carried on it would take fifty million years. How Kevin got bankrupt was he landed on one of Louisa's properties [she had The City and Canary Wharf [the most expensive ones] and he didn't have enough money so he lost. We all thought Josh was going to win because he had 3 hotels on the green properties. But then the winner ended up being Vikram - because I had 3 hotels and heaps of people got sent to my properties!!!

SWEET!
