At Summerland primary we had two basket ball champions Sam and Rob from the New Zealand basket ball team to show some tricks about Basketball. We had competitions who can do the best basket ball tricks and some people got prizes like addidas hats and they got sweat bands and drink bottle And they did some slam dunks. Rob is 2m tall and 11 cm tall and his feet is size 16. Sam is 2m tall and his feet size is 16 .
This morning we were talking to Martha's Vineyard all the way in America. They were 6 to 8 year olds, we had to be in class by 8:00 AM SHARP, They finished at 2:30 in the afternoon and only just got us at 4 O'clock, I know 2 hours aye, They asked us lots of questions like what is your favorite team you always go for in your favorite sport and we said Rugby the All Blacks, League the Warriors, for Netball the Silver Ferns, Magic and Mystics. Those are our New zealand teams we asked them that question they said for Baseball their favorite team tttthhhheeee Red Socks! Their favourite foods over there are MMMMMMMMMMM PPPPiiiizzzzzzzzaaaa. We sent a little Kiwi named Kip the Kiwi he is going all around the world and will eventually reach them and then will keep going around the world untill it reaches us. They had funny American voices, we had great fun talking to them, they loved fishing and they only have 2 terms of school. They finish school 30 minutes before us because they finish at 2:30 when we finish at 3:00 O'clock. They sometimes get yummy, delicious Pizza for Lunch and Morning Tea from the Cafeteria, they stayed at school for almost 2 hours just for us and cant wait for kip the Kiwi to reach them. They really loved the look of our Playground its got heaps of different things on it like Monkey bars, Flying Fox and heaps of Slides. I think talking to them was really cool and meeting them even though we couldn't see them it was okay, Maybe if we could see them it would be even better, good job they could see us!

Today our class, room 4 went to the library and we did speed booking. I thought it was fun. This Is what we done we read the back of the book the blurb and we had to judge 1 to 10 if we liked it are not. 10 means it's really interesting and 1 means it's not my type of book. I had six 10's and 4 1's and we got 30 sec to look at the back of the book and look at the pages in the book. Then we moved to the next book when the bell went then we judge it, when we was at the end, some of room 4 got to get some books out that we liked. we looked at 43 different books. I thought it was fun and very cool. Also we got very confused where to go because there where so many books and people from our class that was the worst bit. the good bit was that at the end if we had our book bag we could get a book out of our favourite book.

Tessellating is like shapes and patterns that connect together to make more patterns. They always joins together and leaves no gaps. They are shapes that connect together. Shapes that fit together can be shapes like: diamonds, square, a plus shape, an L shape, a T shape, a pentagon and a hexagon. Today we went round the whole school to look for connecting shapes that tessellate. We took pictures of shapes around outside the classroom and inside the classroom, by the playground and in the office. Can you guys find any tessellating shapes at your house or school.

Trash to fashion is a fun activity that our school does. We have to collect rubbish and make some clothes out of it. We had to choose a catorgorie. These where the catorgories we could choose from, plastic bag palace, green dreams, junkyard superheroes, colour your world, junk to jewels and headgear. Plastic bag palace is making clothes out of plastic bags. Green dreams is making clothes from books and movies. Junkyard superheroes you had to think we are saving the planet our job is to think about using tires, bits from computers, wires, plugs, metal and wheels. Colour your world you have to use one colour or stick to two or go mad and use them all! Think big and bold and imaginative larger than life and leading the way into a bright new future. Junk to jewels you have to make accessories and jewellery. Head high we have to make hats and headgear. Trash to fashion is all about recycling. Last year I did trash to fashion I worked with 3 people we did not win but we had fun. I am going to do trash to fashion this year with one of my best friends, Crystal. Crystal and I are going to do colour your world. We are going to go mad and use all the colours. We are trying to make a beautiful dress. Last year we made a t-shirt and skirt. This is a photo of our design from last year, Sophie is wearing it. Check out all of last years efforts from the school by clicking here. We will keep you posted of how we get on.
In room 4 we have been doing lots of things on maps and filming.
When we were looking at the maps we had to understand the directions first; North, South, East and West. This is used on a compass, which is used to find your way. Also we learned the much harder directions, like North-East (NE) or South-South -East (SSE). We had to look at this map that had all of the directions to the buried treasure. So we got the idea of making our own map! We made an island that we named ourselves, also we got to put features; e.g Broccoli Forest, Creaky Bridge, Volcanos, Trees, lakes and even waterfalls! Now after you drew the island and features you have to put down a wharf for the pirates to land on. Then you have to find a place for the treasure to be buried under. You have to make trails to the places and lead it to the treasure! Finally you put the instructions. Instructions: Land at Dolphin Sea wharf walk 250 steps East--> until you reach the Cursed Caves. Now you got the idea! Now you could make your own map for yourself!
At filming we had been practicing different camera views. This is how we got our different camera views, by looking at a movie and thinking what kind of camera views they did. After we knew most of them, we had to do a practice movie in a group. We all had a miniature script and a storyboard to practice on first before making the movie. Also we had to make it in a creative, interesting way. All of the movies were awesome and funny! We got lots of amazing tips! In the end it turned out as wicked as if my mother and father had won the Jackpot on Lotto! You can see our movies by clicking here
We are going to create Whanau movies on our four Taniwhas (Friendship, Honesty, Respect and Learning.) We will be filming all four classes. Room 1, 2, 3 and 4
Firstly I hate cross country because if you were running and your shoe laces were untied and the teacher saw you and shouted out to you '' go to the side so other people won't trip over'' and you look up 6 or 7 people have gone past!
Secondly if you had a big hill you had to run up, its just a waste of time, most people always power walk because it will take them like half an hour to get up there and the teachers say hurry up!.
Thirdly if you had a sore leg and it was aching and you told the teacher and they said 'well you still have to run', and the race starts and you are way at the back you can't catch up because you're too slow to get near them and every one has finished and you have still got half way to go
So why bother doing cross country when you won't even come 1st place. I have given you so many reasons why can't you believe me you wouldn't even know what the word cross country means so trust me and you will never have to thank me ever!
Some teachers say that if we do cross country it will make kids enjoy running BUT I think no I do not enjoy!
Reason 1, you should do cross county because, you will get fit and you will start running faster then you normally run, would you like that or would you like to get chubby and lazy, so if you pick to do cross county and you will start to get fitter and faster, more every time you do it.
Reason 2, you should do cross county because you just might become one of the fastest cross county runners in the school, your legs will get stronger and you will have fit and strong legs.
Reason 3, you will be healthy and be able to run a long distance.
Reason 4, it will start becoming fun to you and you will feel good because you went all the way to the end, you will feel proud of your self too.
Finally, the last reason you will get to do it with your friends and, you can all feel proud together because you made it the hole way.
Thats why you should do cross county. You should do it because it is a fun sport.
Shania, JD and Mikayla all did a creative letterbox. We had to choose a book from the NZ post book awards to make a letterbox then we had to make a creative letterbox out of the book that we chose.
Shania chose Chicken feathers, JD did Roadworks and Mikayla did Ducks Stuck we had to make the letterbox as creative as we could, and of course we all did cool ones. We are in a competition to win books for our school library, class library and our selves. The dimensions could not exceed 30 cm-30 cm -50 cm. Our teacher entered us into this very cool competition we think we are only allowed to enter one of us witch is very sad because our teacher doesn't want to choose 1 out of our cool letterboxs. We all put our hard work into them but the most importent thing is that we all had fun making them.
Shania made hers by blowing up a balloon and paper mashe and then I painted the paper mashe in black paint. After that I stuck the feathers on and then I stuck the head on and feathered it. Meanwhile, I let it to dry and soon after that I stuck the balloon on the head and then I put the googly eyes on and took it to school.
Mikayla made hers by using paper to cover 2 boxes and painted them yellow and red. Then she went to the shop and bought a duck mask and stappled it on to the top of the box after that I put a NO JUNK MAIL SIGN on the bottem of the top box then printed, copied some pictures of the book and made little holes for the feathers she did the number I traced a hole for the paper.
JD made his by starting with a shoe box and cut a little bit out of another shoe box and stuck it on top to make the cab then he did the wheels by tracing around a drinking glass. Then painted the cab and the back white and painted the wheels black once the wheels had dried he painted the silver on so it made it look like a wheel. Then he stuck on the wheels and the front and back bumper then the side and back windows, the indicaters and then all the roadworks stuff.
What is Easter? Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon. Following the first day of spring. It could be any Sunday between March 22 and April 25.It is the most sacred of all celebrations.
How Easter was celebrated in Ancient Days? Ages ago people use to celebrate the coming of spring. They believe that changing seasons is guided by spirits or gods. The plants, flowers and animals coming out of there house or caves they brought life back to land.
Why is Good Friday called Good Friday and Easter Sunday? Good Friday is called Good Friday because Jesus Christ died for us because of our sins at Friday and he rose on the third day and received it at the right had on the Father which is Sunday. What is Lent? Lent is the forty days special seasons to Easter Sunday. Sundays are not counted because it is the Lords Day because there is no fasting so it not counted fasting. Some countries have celebrate Mardi Gras which means “Fat Tuesday” in French the day before Lent is Ash Wednesday. It is also called “Carnival” sometimes. BY: Angelica, Alyssa & Salote
We created this Animoto which means an animation of photographs into a movie. We made this to show you the benefits of E.O.T.C. This was our first time making this! We hope you enjoyed it very much! By Lynette and Shania
On the 31\3\09 Stefan (an adult) one of New Zealand's top film producers a girl named Atarah and me, Ezrah. Miss Chesseman, Atarah and I went into town to film about .school.nz a lady named Mikayla was asking us questions (well not Miss Chesseman) about what we do, how we do it and when we do it. She even offered us some juice or water just before we started filming, there were lights, a camera and a couch we even got to sit on the couch it is where we filmed. Before we got filmed in the morning they had .mil which means .millitary they had a girl for that job. On the first of April he took some shots of Atarah and I with my class, Room 4. The class were running around crazy for a photo shoot. After this is all done like it is edited, published and cutted out all the bad bits it will all go on the internet but it won't be ready until about 2 or 4 months. I don't know what the site is but Stefan will be sending it to my teacher. I will let you know the address when it is up on the internet. I'M A SUPERSTAR!!!
On Friday 27th we went to Carey Park. The activities we did were bush walk where we did a 45 minute walk through the bush. The fun thing about this activity was sliding down all the slippery bits.
On air rifle we just used air rifles and shot glass animals. The bad thing about this activity was aiming because if we missed the target that would be our turn gone pretty much.
On climbing wall we got strapped in and climbed up the climbing wall. The amazing thing about this activity was getting to the top because it felt like I had just climbed 2 meters.
On flying fox we climbed up a whole lot of stairs up to a tree house high up in a tree. Then we got harnessed to a long bit of wire, once we got to the top then we would just step off the edge. The scary thing about this activity was stepping off the edge because it felt a bit like the parents were torturing us (though they weren’t).
On orienteering we went round Carey park looking for different words but we had a map that told us where to go. The joyful thing about this activity was hunting for the words.
On problem solving we had to solve some very hard but fun problems. The annoying thing about this activity was having to try and work it out yourself.
On sports bag we did 3 sports: cricket where we had turns to bowl and bat, soccer where we just try and kick the ball into the other teams goal, volley ball where we just have to hit the ball over the net. The awesome thing about all 3 of the activities was using teamwork.
Last of all water activities where we did 2 activities. One was we swung on a rope and let go and fell into the water, the other one was where we slid on a rubber slide into the water. The stink thing about these 2 activities was that the water was freezing! Man that was an awesome day! After all of that most of us nearly went to sleep on the bus because we were to tired!

On Wednesday the 25/3/09 Summerlands year 5's and 6's went on the big day out!!.We traveled around West Auckland trying to find clues to find our way back to school. We had 70 dollars in each group. There were 17 groups all together. We had to use the money wisley. We had to buy our lunch out of our group money. It was a hot day walking around in the sun and finding clues. On the clues there was these qustions that we had to solve and as we were solving them we had a parent to supervise us but they weren't allowed to help us with the problems For example: find this book in the library 16500, & do a dance outside the mall.
When we got back to school we had to do an assessment. We think that we will talk about this trip for a long time. Some people walked back to school because they had no money left and some people went on this small as bus that we were so squeezed we coundn't even breath for 2 seconds but we all got back to school safely. Shania & Salotte
Yesterday, we had E.O.T.C survival day. We had to do 6 activities. They are: Make a waterproof shelter using bamboo, string, tarps and rocks. Next activity was First Aid, we learnt how to use medical equipment when a doctor is around and what to do when someone or you are on fire. Another activity was making our own stretcher, it was as hard as drawing a masterpiece, using jumpers, 2 planks of wood, scissors and black sacks. We had to carry a person in our team on the stretcher through an obstacle course with one person blind folded. it was hard carrying someone in the stretcher. Then we used charcoal to cook sausages because in an earthquake there is no power. We also put up tents using teamwork. It was also hard putting up the tents because some of us didn't know how to because we hadn't put one up before. Last of all we made alarms using 1 plastic bottle, 20 sheets of newspaper, 1 piece of cloth, 1 pair of scissors, 1 roll of sellotape and string also doing a 20 second dance. the point of the activity was to communicate using sign language. Everyone except for 1 person couldn't speak because they drunk some water that gave them a virus. It was a fun day but tiring at the end. E.O.T.C on PhotoPeach
On the 17/3/09 the Apple bus tour came to Summerland. They go around New Zealand for one whole week, they go to over 6 different schools and learn new stuff about schools and what they are doing. Some of them asked us some cool questions and what we were doing, we were making a new post about our new character descriptions. We had around 20 too 35 teachers in the school and had around 10 too 15 people in the class at a time, some of the cool questions were like what is this you are doing, How do you do that and yeah. Some of the teachers from the different schools told us about their own class blogs, some of them told us their blog names so we could search them on blogger.com where most blog people log on to their own blog.
WOW!! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No! It's our 'character descriptions'. We started by going on Inspiration, we first read a book we wanted to do it on them we started to write stuff about them their personality, behaviour, interests, what they look like and their talents. We did some character descriptions on Amelia Bedelia and Winnie the Witch, Grandpa's....,Curious George and then we printed it. By Ezrah and Zeyaad!!
Lots of schools are having trouble with bullies, the reputation of our school of having good citizens are going down. The most common situation in our children's lives are about bullies threatening us or using bad actions, such as kicking, pushing and punching. If we have a staff meeting with all of the teachers about how to stop the bullying in our schools and keep things safe. Our environment would be a bad place if we don't stop this bullying now! So we need to make our kids environment better and safe to live in. Even we try to stop bullying but sometimes we don't care and just do it anyway. So if our kids keep on bullying we will give them four warnings, and if they don't stop bullying they will get some of their medicine!
Hi I'm Jared and we're going to have to put my cat down, he is getting really old. But, I'm going to tell you about all the good times with him. Well first his name is Blacky. One of them is when I feed him I love how his lovely soft fur rubs against me to tell me he is hungry. I also like how he comes and sits on my lap to grease me up if he's been naughty!
Last of all I love how he looks at me with those big black eyes it's sort of like he knows what I'm thinking. So thats all the good times with him.
I will miss him but at least I have two other cats Puss and Boots. We called one of them Boots because her feet were like boots and we called the other one Puss because we thought it would rhyme with Boots. JD
Wow Swimming Cluster Day already it must been so fun. First we had to get into groups of 5's,4's and even 3's some of the parents had to take us to the Swimming Pools, we had to wait in our age groups and wait for our age groups to be called out, some of us had to swim back stroke, breast stroke and or freestyle some of the events were so fun!!! The people swimming splashed a lot because their arms were moving so fast! There were about 11 schools there. Heaps of parents, teachers and children were at Westwave. We came 6th equal with Holy Cross, which was awesome! We got into all the final races too! Last week I got burgled! When I got home with my mum and my sister we saw the place and it was trashed. I said "what happened here?", my mum said we have been robbed!. I felt so mad and angry I was shaking like dog. We went to ask our neighbours to see if they saw anything. They said they saw a guy with a black and grey hoddie the night before it had happened.
My opinion is that people that do that should be thrown in jail. We called the police and they said they will be here in the next 48 hours but they still haven't come yet. I am really angry that the police haven't been yet and it is a really disgusting feeling that people have been through your house.
Hey guys, Yesterday Was Krypton 09. We had two teams we had a Team A and Team B. Miss Davies and Miss Rack were running it. There were about 18 schools that enrolled, there were about 8 to 10 events. The events were awesome they were active, cool and funny. My favourite event was the obstacle course we had to go under ropes through tyres, through a pair of ropes, up a concrete mountain, through the playground, down the hill then through the ropes, we did this going one way and then back. The activity was active and fun too but we were all in groups doing it. This was also the hardest activity.
It was a great day, I love the fun activities and they are good for my health.

We all drew the outlines of some Taniwhas. Some teachers selected the best designs. We projected the 4 selected Taniwhas onto the large card, we copied the outlines. We are making our own Taniwhas human sized.
We have been collaging over them, we stuck bits of little pieces of paper from magazines on to the vivid lines of the Taniwhas. After that we all worked in a team to stick the papers on the Taniwhas using the coloured parts of magazines to match the colours of the Taniwhas.
We are still working on them because they have the pieces of paper have to be the size of your thumb but they are looking so good. You can see more pictures of our art work here
Every Sunday we go for a swim for 200 meters. We go on the bogey boards for 20 minutes. We are practising paddling with your feet . We learn how to get out of a rip too. I am learning to be a junior life saver at Bethells beach. I want to be a life saver so I can save people. I really enjoy it, a lot.
